Recently I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in quite a while. They asked me how I was doing? I responded, “which me are you asking about…the business me, the mother me, the personal me?”  I continued, “the business me is doing GREAT! I am so blessed to have a career I love and clients I absolutely adore! I just finished filming a TV Show for the Sundance Channel in Manhattan! The mom me is even better! I have two of the most wonderful kids any mother could hope to have and I love them beyond life itself! The other me…the personal me is still in court battling with my house (to date a 3 year saga), paying legal fee’s up the butt and trying everyday to stay focused on what is truly important and meaningful in my life.” And that is when it hit me….

We are all like puzzles! We have all of these parts or pieces of our lives that make up who we are. Now anyone who has ever done a puzzle knows that it can be a very tedious process. Sometimes it is easier to separate the pieces by color and pattern then to randomly just pick pieces and try to make them fit. Our lives are the same way!

As humans we have many sides that make up who we are. I am the mom, the business women, the comedian (or so i like to think)…LOL, the private person (shocking I know), the overwhelmed person, the happy go lucky person and on and on. Just like the puzzle we can’t always get all the pieces in place right away. Instead sometimes it is easier to focus on the obvious pieces that fit.  Then go back to find the more difficult pieces of the puzzle after a bit of a break.

So the next time you feel overwhelmed by life (as we all do at some point), think back to the process of doing a puzzle.

  • take a break and come back later
  • focus on the pieces that fit
  • take your time to work on the pieces that don’t
  • don’t be afraid to ask for help, sometimes fresh eyes can give you a new perspective
  • remember Rome wasn’t built in a day

And always remember that you are a wonderful human being with many sides of you!  We are all “works in progress” and every now and again you are going to have that one darn puzzle piece that you just can’t seem to get to fit!
