Question

When trying to develop your intuition, how can you separate “trusting your intuition” with “reading too much into things”?  Someone always says “you’re just reading too much into it”.  How do I know that I’m not just doing that?

Thanks.
Vera

This is a GREAT question and one I am asked a lot!  There are actually two parts to this question.  One is how can you learn to trust your intuition.  Two how do you not read into things.

Intuition is simply a feeling, a gut instinct we all have.  The best way to learn to trust your intuition is by accumulation proof.  Start keeping a journal about the feelings and predictions you have.  You will be amazed at how accurate you are.  Here is an example:  When I was buying my house the lawyer called with the closing date.  As I went to write it in my date book I had the thought that it wasn’t going to be on that day.  I actually saw another date a week later.  So I wrote the day I saw in my date book.  Sure enough we closed on the day I saw and not the date the lawyer had originally said!

Not reading into things takes practice. Remember to always as for validation.  If you are trying to make things “fit” into what you are feelings then you are probably reading too  much into it.  You want to be aware of the feelings and validations.  Here is an example:  I was having a hard time with an issue in my life and someone suggested I read a specific book.  Later that same day I saw the book advertised on a talk show.  A few hours later I overheard two women on line in a store talking about the same book!  Then I got my mail and you guessed it –there was a flyer with the same book on it.  That was three times in one day!  That is VALIDATION.  I bought the book and it helped me resolve the issue I was having.
